Our founder, Erik Aufderheide, is passionate about fighting against medical malpractice because of his own experience with his mother. She took a contaminated natural supplement made by a large Japanese Pharmaceutical Company, causing severe physical complications relating to eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome (total decline, including hair loss, skin damage, and neurological pain).
After suffering through years of agony, she finally lost the fight to suicide the week after her settlement came through. At the time, Erik was a legal adult, which meant that she had no dependents – so the company kept the money. The system valued her life at $0.
When Erik got the call, he was in U.S. Air Force Pilot training as newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. He was shocked to hear his mother’s lawyer tell him that she had passed away and the lawsuit had no value. That was the moment that ignited the fire behind Wingman Legal’s purpose: retribution for victims and their families who have been failed by medicine and law.
